El Camino High School is a small independent study high school located in Ventura, California. It is a member of the Ventura Unified School District (VUSD).
El Camino High School is unique in the Ventura Unified School District in that it allows students to complete work at home. Students are required to come to school a minimum of 10 hours per week to meet with their teacher, take tests. To maintain enrollment, students must complete a minimum of 20 hours of work per week. However, many students supplement their core school work with extracurricular activities like music, art or drama in local high schools, sports, or Ventura College classes. Many students also work full or part-time, earning credits through the work experience class. The school claims to be a unique approach to learning, the school offers the University of California “A to G” college prep courses, and is a middle college academy, using educational pathways including community college clases, internships, community service projects and participation in work experience.
